Keywords are the core of any search engine optimization campaign, it’s considered to be one of the main factors in online marketing strategy. If your potential client is looking for a product or service you are offering, it will be easier for one to find your website by properly selected keywords. And your benefit by choosing proper keywords will be better ranking and more of online exposure. SEO Advise 1: Think as your client. Think what keywords can one you to find your services or products online? Look at your product in detail, what aspects or specific words can accurately describe your product? Break down entire list by “categories”, “brand”, and “models”. Start your keyword research from simple 2-3 words phrases or sentences; it’s a proven fact that those short terms are used more frequently then long sentence queries. Later on, add brands and additional descriptive information – don’t forget to use singular and plural. SEO Advise 2: Break down words by groups or categories. Compare your keywords with your online presence – website, blog or social media presence. The logic is simple here: any potential client out there wants to find necessary information as soon as they can by entering their search phrase. Respectively, your online content has to be enriched with optimal keyword phrases of your industry. Create such a list for every product you offer. On the basis of current lists you will be able to create groups of pages with relevant content. It’s clear that potential user does not and will not want to search through content to find necessary information. Don’t be taken back by a large group of words, it’s your task to display online visitor exactly what they are looking for. SEO Advise 3: Don’t forget about geographical location of your business. Most searches use geotargeting technology, where only relevant results are displayed and are displayed in the city you are in. But some web visitors enter city or state name along their search query. By entering geographical location of your business, you will benefit from searches such as “home builders in alaska” etc. SEO Advise 4: Use synonyms, other way of spelling and possible mistypes. For examples, if you are advertising your Spanish tutoring services, you may add keywords such as: education, classes, remote, distant, flexible etc. If you are a distributor of a known brand name such as Siemens, you could include keyword tags like Simens. SEO Advise 5: Remove all words and phrases that are very broad and generic, but don’t get carried away minimizing your list. Remove any keyword combinations that appear to be too broad, incorrect. The rule of thumb here is that phrases of two three words work best. If you are in business of selling ball pens, keywords should contain only precise description of ball pens, not gel pens, and not ink pens, not pens in general. SEO Advise 6: Use verbs Use grammar accordingly. Good examples are clean, cleaning, etc. And phrases such as “buy” or “find” in combination with your keywords will add clients who are ready to buy now. SEO Advise 7: Use “minus” words. Add “minus” keywords to your list. Think and analyze what keywords with bring your page up, but client will not find necessary information. For example, if you are selling bicycles, but not parts for bicycle repairs – your “minus” word will be “parts”; what you don’t need is a search results with your page on it for “parts for bicycles” as a search query. Removing “minus” keywords you also remove non relevant words from your lists, and spend you energy focusing on main, high traffics, important and descriptive keywords.
